No residency for Wikileaks founder

Published måndag 18 oktober 2010 kl 21.24
Julian Assange

The controversial Australian-born founder of the internet site Wikileaks will not be given a residence permit in Sweden – according to a decision by the Swedish migration authorities who refuse to motivate their stand point.

Wikileaks' Julian Assange has been blasted by critics in the United States and else where for revealing secret documents about the American war policy in Iraq and Afghanistan showing that many civilians have been killed by the Nato forces there.

He had hoped to get residency in Sweden to help him run the internet site here.

He has also been facing charges of rape and sexual assault in Sweden  – where some observers maintain that this could be part of a conspiracy to silence criticism of the ongoing war.
