Västerbotten safest in Sweden

Published tisdag 19 oktober 2010 kl 17.58

Residents of Jönköping, Sweden’s tenth largest city, feel the most unsafe in their environment, according to a survey commissioned by Swedish insurance company If.

More than 4.000 people took part in the survey asking how safe they feel. The poll included a variety of questions ranging from queries on traffic and crime to healthcare and private economy.

Gert Olsson with Jönköping county administration board told newspaper Svenska Dagbladet he was stunned by the county’s bottom ranking.

“I’m very surprised. We live quite safely here. We do have a high unemployment rate but it is lower than the national average now,” he said. “But the residents might feel that they have very small economic margins since the salaries aren’t that high.”

The survey placed Halland province on Sweden’s western coast as the safest followed by Västerbotten, Jämtland in the north and the eastern island of Gotland.
