Crime

Four guilty of rape and pimping

Published tisdag 2 november 2010 kl 11.59

In the sensational trial in the Swedish southern city of Malmö against 10 men accused of raping a 14-year old mentally-handicapped girl and selling her to other men, the 18-year-old leader of the group has been sentenced to one year in prison for aggravated procuring..

A 35-year-old has been sentenced to three and a half years for the rape of children and  aggravated procuring.

A 51-year-old has received two years in jail for aggravated rape.

A 27-year-old has been sentenced to one year in prison for fraud and a 17-year-old has received a one-year sentence for sexual purchases – illegal in Sweden although prostitution itself is not.

None of the above have been found guilty of  human trafficking and five of the men have been acquitted of all charges.

The trial captured additional headlines when a female prosecutor resigned after only one day when she received death threats, claiming that the legal system covered up such threats instead of tackling them.
