A snow storm continues to plague southern and central  Sweden – knocking out road, ferry, commuter trains and some long-distance train traffic. Many road accidents have been reported and the meteorogical office has advised people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.

Only one runway is operating at Stockholm’s international airport Arlanda causing hours-long delays in flights. Skavsta airport, south of Stockholm has been closed.

Passenger ships to Finland, Estonia and Latvia are reported to be running with delays.

Stockholm transportation is limited to the underground – with many thousands of employees trying to walk to work through the snow or staying at home.

Hospitals report they are running as usual with staff helping out with extended hours.
