Police expose suspects online

Published tisdag 15 februari 2011 kl 13.30

Police in Jämtland, in north western Sweden, have begun posting videos of suspected criminals on their website, reports Metro newspaper.

The footage of suspected thieves and sex offenders caught on surveillance cameras can be published legally following a recent decision by the Justice Ombudsman – on the condition that it shows a clear crime or attempted crime.

The crime also has to carry at least a six month sentence.

Metro newspaper reports that several police authorities are interested in following the Jämtland example and are just waiting for guidelines from the national police authority.
