Protests against Iraqi expulsions

Published torsdag 17 februari 2011 kl 11.56

Protests were held around Sweden Wednesday against the continued expatriation of rejected asylum seekers to Iraq.

Police detained 16 people in connection with a small demonstration outside a Migration Board holding facility in Gothenburg, and around 15 people were on hand to demonstrate at Gothenburg’s Landvetter airport as a group of Iraqis were flown out of the country.

There were silent demonstrations Wednesday evening in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö.

Both United Nations refugee agency and the Council of Europe have called for a halt to repatriations to Iraq, especially for Christians, who have been the target of attacks there.
