Umeå testing mini fire engine

Published fredag 25 februari 2011 kl 10.55

Firemen in the northern Swedish city of Umeå are the first in this Scandinavian country to test a new mini fire engine using very little water in the foam sprayed on the flames.

The vehicle is rather expensive but effective and has been used to put out a fire on board a ship in the harbour, which would have been in trouble if doused with a heavy dose of water.

The city says it will now also be easier to recruit part-time fire-fighters since they don't need the special driver's license required for maneuvering those standard, large-sized fire engines.
