Bildt welcomes UN sanctions against Libya
As the United Nations security council voted unanimously on Saturday to impose sanctions against Libya, Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt wrote on his blog, "I welcome this warmly. We have to hope that this hastens the process in Tripoli and other areas that are still controlled by Gaddafi."
The sanctions include travel bans and asset freezes on Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his family, according to Reuters, as well as a weapons embargo against the country.
The UN also referred the recent bloodshed in Libya to the International Criminal Court in the Hague for investigation as possible crimes against humanity.
