Social Democratic Party leadership deadlock
Local chairpersons of the opposition Social Democratic party failed to agree on a candidate on Tuesday for the forthcoming leadership election, reports news agency TT.
The two main candidates tipped for the post – Thomas Östros, former finance spokesman and Mikael Damberg, the party’s chairman in Stockholm county - were reportedly rejected by several districts.
A number of local chairpersons told TT that the leadership battle is still wide open, just three weeks ahead of the election.
“A compromise candidate can still come forward,” said one source.
