No luck getting Swedes out of Tripoli Wednesday
The Swedish Hercules plane that was intended to evacuate Swedes and other foreign nationals from Libya's capital Tripoli on Wednesday had to turn around and head back to Malta.
"It didn't get permission to land," says Cecilia Julin, the Swedish Foreign Ministry's communication chief. The plane will possibly make another attempt on Thursday, she tells news agency TT.
About 50 Swedes are still in Libya and at least seven of them want help to leave the country, according to diplomat Håkan Hjort. They have been unable to leave the country as a result of the uprising.
