On trial for catching 13 000 birds
A 40-year-old man in Hudiksvall, in the north, is on trial for allegedly catching over 13 000 birds using net and other traps.
The man is being charged with cruelty to animals, breaking the species protection law and hunting crimes. If convicted the prosecutor is asking for a sentence of at least 2.5 years in prison.
He was arrested in June 2010 after an anonymous tip. When police searched his house they found several hundred birds, dead and alive, and his computer contained files of thousands more.
