Swedes to investigate sunken foreign submarine

Published fredag 4 mars 2011 kl 20.19

A Swedish prosecutor says he will after all investigate the discovery of a sunken submarine  off the Swedish Baltic island of Gotland – to see is Russia or some other country dumped the ship in Swedish territorial waters.

The Swedish military had first decided not to investigate the wreck.

The discovery has renewed speculation that foreign submarines were secretely patrolling Swedish waters during the Cold War years – with some concluding that most of the reports were false or that both East and Western submarines  were patrolling Swedish territory – and that those Swedes who publically blamed only Moscow were wrong.
