Hundreds falling ill with vomiting virus

Published tisdag 8 mars 2011 kl 14.23

Record numbers of cases of the so-called "Winter vomiting virus" or norovirus are being reported to the Swedish medical authorities, according to news agency TT.

Over 500 cases were reported this week, that is the most in one week since records began eight years ago.

Head microbiologist at the Swedish Institute for Communicable Disease Control, Kjell-Olof Hedlund, says the reason for the sudden increase could be because several hospitals have been hit by the virus at once, and that it has now hit the whole country.
