Teacher not guilty despite sex with student
A court in the western Swedish town of Västervik has found a 50-year-old teacher not guilty of sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old student. The teacher admitted having a sexual relationship with the 9th-grade boy, but the court found that the affair with the male teacher was consensual.
The student told the court that he was in love with the teacher, and District Court Judge Kjell Yngvesson said there was nothing in the case indicating that he was coerced or rewarded. The age of consent in Sweden is 15 years.
It’s unclear whether the teacher will be allowed to keep his job. An administrator at the school called the relationship “unacceptable.”
