After the repeated scandals regarding foreign berry pickers exploited by companies in Sweden, the fair trade organisations Swedwatch and the Fair Trade Centre now want to investigate the conditions in this sector, local Swedish Radio reports. For Swedwatch, this would be the first time such an investigation is carried out in Sweden.

Normally, the organisation - mainly funded by the Swedish development agency Sida - focuses on Swedish businesses in developing countries. Now the organisation is hoping for funding from trade unions and local councils. The Migration Board and the Ministry of Enterprise have already been approached for this purpose, but according to the news agency TT they have declined to grant the organisations any funding.
