Retirees demand revisions to pension system
Five nationwide pension organizations have said they want to get rid of the so-called "brakes" in the pension system. This is an automatic balancing that means that pension sinks if there isn't enough money in the system.
The organizations, which handle about half of Sweden's nearly 2 million retirees, claim that the current system has more losers than winners.
But in answer to their demands, social insurance minister Ulf Kristersson of the Moderates, suggested instead that the retirement age should go up.
Kristersson told news agency TT, "as we're living longer, shouldn't we urge people to work a little longer to get a better pension?"
