No extra money will be paid out this year to make sure that young people in rural areas have access to summer jobs, according to a new government decision.

Last year the government provided roughly $18 million which helped create more than 25 000 jobs. Without the money at least 20 000 of those jobs will disappear this year.

The reason for the decision is that there is no financial crisis this year and several municipalities have registered a budget surplus, according to Labour Minister Hillevi Engströms’ pressecretary.
