A verbal dispute has broken out in Denmark over critical statements from Sweden's Thomas Hammarberg, the Council of Europe's human rights commissioner - who said that Denmark and other EU nations are unwilling to accept their responsibility to accept refugees fleeing from North Africa.

Danish Integration Minister Sören Pind of the Venster or Liberal Party dismissed the Swede as an idiot not worthy of a response.

But opposition Danish Social Democrats dismiss the minister's comments as reaction from the party's right wing and damaging Denmark's diplomatic reputation since they maintain that Hammarberg has enormous international respect.
