Swedish Defense Minister Sten Tolgfors is demanding that government authorities and local councils carry out fire prevention measures at the nation's schools.

A survey carried out by Swedish Radio News of over 200 communities reveals that many schools have not had any fire inspection checks for years - and some as many as six years.

Legislation from 2004 lifted the responsibility for fire prevention measures from the schools themselves to the local councils - demanding regular inspection.
