Sweden’s King Carl Gustaf has spend the past few days touring Afghanistan, visiting Swedish troops in Mazar-i-Sharif, where 500 Swedish soldiers are stationed, Swedish Radio News reports.

The king also visited the newly build military base Monitor in Shirbirgan province but for security reasons the visit was kept a secret until the king returned to Sweden on Saturday.

This was the king’s first visit to Afghanistan but his daughter, crown princess Victoria visited the Swedish soldiers last year.
