Swedish film crew expected home

Publicerat tisdag 19 april 2011 kl 11.39

The three Swedes who were arrested in Azerbaijan on Sunday were able to leave the country on Monday, according to the Swedish foreign ministry.

The Swedish foreign ministry said that the Swedes, who belonged to a documentary film crew, were arrested because of visa problems, reports Swedish Radio news.

TT reports that police in Azerbaijan deleted the film crew's digital memory cards with their footage.

Mikael Ekman with Pampas production told TT that the Swedes were expected to arrive back in Sweden by Tuesday at lunchtime.

AFP reported on Sunday that police arrested pro-democracy activists who were trying to stage a protest in Baku. The opposition said that Swedish journalists numbered among those arrested and later released.
