Three years prison for politician's assailant

Published onsdag 27 april 2011 kl 10.45
Fredrick Federley after the attack

An 18 year old who attacked prominent Swedish politician Fredrick Federley just before September’s elections has been sentenced to three years in prison.

He was convicted by Södertorn District Court Wednesday for aggravated assault, illegal threats, and robbery, and will have to pay around 30,000 dollars in fines to Federley and 13 other victims.

The court says there were no indications that the attack on Federley was a hate crime or driven by political motives. The Center Party MP, who is openly homosexual, tells the newspaper Aftonbladet that he is relieved the case is over and he hopes his assailant can find some order in his life.
