Illegal discrimination against Roma

Published onsdag 27 april 2011 kl 11.57

Sweden’s Discrimination Ombudsman says Roma here are regularly discriminated against.

Echoing earlier criticism from the Council of Europe, a new report from the ombudsman points out that this discrimination is illegal, as the Roma are protected as one of Sweden’s five national minorities.

The ombudsman also says that more complaints need to go to court, adding that there is also reason to review the existing legislation.
