Ambassador to Sweden returns to US
The current US ambassador to Sweden, Matthew Barzun, will step down from his post to instead lead fundraising for president Barack Obama's re-election campaign next year.
Barzon worked with fundraising for Obama already in the successful 2008 election campaign. He came to work in Stockholm in August 2009. In his blog, Barzun says he is "honoured" to be asked to serve as chair of Obama's National Finance Committee and that he has decided to accept it.
Barzun says he was sent to Sweden with one word of advice from the president: "listen". Among the things that have made an impression on him, says Barzon, are "Sweden's leadership in sustainability and clean energy to its deep sense of international responsibility" as well as "the sense of balance embedded in the Swedish national character".
Barzun will return to the US with his family at the end of May.
