New method to test for prostate cancer
A new test to diagnose prostate cancer has been developed by researchers at Uppsala University. Current tests have been criticised for giving unreliable test results.
By measuring the amount of so called prostasomes, secreted by the prostate gland, scientists hope that the new method will give more reliable results than the tests that are in use today, according to a press release.
The level of prostasomes is usually higher in patients who have cancer.
Studies on the new method have so far showed positive results and scientists hope that the method can be made available within the next five to ten years.
