Swedish researchers have discovered a new tick-borne illness that can cause influenza like symptoms and even blood clots, reports Swedish Radio News.

Three people in southern Sweden have contracted the disease, but researchers fear the infection exists throughout the country.

Researchers say they found the bacteria that causes the disease in small rodents and ticks in the south of Sweden. Like Lyme disease, nearly one in ten ticks is estimated to carry the bacteria.

The disease can be treated with antibiotics.
