Undocumented migrants who work as berry pickers in Sweden are badly exploited according to a report released today by the non-profit organisation, Swedwatch.

However, it says that the foreign pickers who have been employed by agencies have received better treatment during the most recent berry picking season.

The pickers without permits have little chance to protest against poor working conditions and cannot turn to the authorities because they have no work permit.

Swedwatch says permitless work must be decriminalised to stop the exploitation of foreign berry pickers.

Swedwatch estimates that around 2,500 undocumented berry pickers worked in Sweden this summer.
