Rembrandt For Sale

Published fredag 24 september 2004 kl 13.57

The Rembrandt painting ”Minerva In Her Study,” bearing a price tag of US$46 million, goes on sale Saturday in Stockholm.

According to art experts, it’s the most significant painting to come on the Swedish market.
Art dealer Verner Åmell told the Associated Press he’ll keep the painting on display in a private gallery in the capital and make it open to the public for four weeks. In that time, he’s hoping someone will decide to buy it.

Several foreign art collectors have expressed interest in the painting, but Åmell says he’d prefer it to end up in Swedish hands. “In that case, it will probably end up at the National Museum. It’s not exactly a painting you hang above your couch.”
