Roe deer running onto motorway after sabotage

Deer can cause accidents on the road

Holes have been cut in the fences along the E18 motorway north of Stockholm.

Swedish Radio reports speculation that anti-wolf activists may be behind the sabotage, in the hope that wolves will be killed.

The fences are designed to stop wild animals from running on to the road. But in spring, and now in autumn, holes were cut in 50 different places.

The company responsible for the fences' maintenance is Svevia. At the company is Roland Storm, who says to Swedish Radio that the holes are serious - that people can get injured by animals running wild in traffic. He says they are now checking the fences twice a week.
