Two ethnic Somalis who have been standing trial along with Swedish journalists Johan Persson and Martin Schibbye in Ethiopia were convicted to serving long prison terms on Friday.

Newspaper Dagens Nyheter reports that the two rebels were sentenced to serve 17 years, for a crime news agency TT terms as attempting to carry out terrorist deaths.

The Swedish abmassador to Ethiopia, Jens Odlander, tells TT he is not sure what the conviction of these two men might mean for the Swedish reporters, who are charged with supporting a terrorist group and entering the country illegally. Their trial continues on December 6.
