Swedes who donate sperm scored higher on a personality test than did other men in Sweden. The donors got higher points in areas testing responsibility, honesty, self-confidence and personal level of maturity, according to a study, TT news agency reports.

Swedish donors are given the personality test to vet out men with physical and psychological problems. The test includes questions about behaviour, feelings and social competence.

“With this study we were able to show that all of the men who were approved for the program had completely normal personalities. They exhibited maturity and stable characters,” Professor Gunilla Sydsjö with Linköping University and the lead author of the study.

Researchers studied 115 men who donated sperm at Swedish clinics during 2005-2008, and compared them with men of the same age who weren’t planning to donate sperm. The study was published in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
