Twenty-four Hour Retail Giant Faces Hefty Fines

Published onsdag 6 oktober 2004 kl 14.45

The ubiquitous corner convenience store has become a facet of life in many big cities around the world. But the popluar business-concept is the focus of regulatory action in Sweden.

The Swedish work environment authority has demanded that the 7-11 franchise in Sweden take measures to improve security at its stores - or face hefty fines and shut down.

The 7-11 franchise owner in Scandinavia, Scandinavian Convenience Sweden, has appealed the decision, saying it has already increased the number of staff and introduced a secure cash handling system in its stores but that this has not helped the problem with robberies and threats.
