Sweden’s Blix In Running For Peace Prize

Published torsdag 7 oktober 2004 kl 13.17

Concluding Nobel week, tomorrow, Friday, the Nobel Peace prize will be announced in Oslo, with the International Atomic Energy Agency and its director general Mohamed El Baradei favourites.

Sweden’s Hans Blix is also said to be in the running.

With no major progress made in any of the current conflicts raging around the world, experts say the I.A.E.A and its Egyptian DG could be honoured for their efforts to hunt down possible nuclear weapons programmes in North Korea and Iraq.

A record 194 candidates, whose names have not been disclosed, are in the running this year.
