Sweden Offers Turkey Membership Help

Published torsdag 7 oktober 2004 kl 14.39

Sweden wants to see the European Union start membership talks with Turkey as soon as possible according to Foreign Secretary Laila Freivalds in a speech on the second and concluding day of her official trip there.

Addressing a press conference in Ankara, Freivalds said Sweden would help Turkey in the work it needs to do to join the 25 member block.

The EU commission meets on December the 17th in a summit on whether to set a firm date for accession negotiations with Ankara.
