Praise and Criticism over Nobel Literature Award

Published måndag 11 oktober 2004 kl 16.23

Here in Stockholm, critics continue to defend or denounce this year’s Nobel literature prize winner – Elfrieda Jelinkek.

Literatury personalities, playwrites, theater directors, and culture page editors either praise her for her outspoken slams of her native Austria, Western imperialism and the violation of women’s rights – or denounce her for being more socially critical than cultural.

Making up for lost time pretty much ignoring the controversial Austrian poet, writer and playwrite, the Royal Dramatic Theater here has arranged a quick week-end reading of her dramatic works and a small, private theater on a downtown Stockholm island running one of her plays has suddenly been sold out every evening.
