Social Tourism a myth
Worries over flood of new EU members flooding Sweden unfounded.
Government worries about a rise in so-called social tourism here were apparently unfounded.
When the ten new members of the European Union entered the bloc May 1st, many expressed concern that there would be a flood of immigrants from the relatively poorer new members who would apply for benefits. But according to a new report, during May, June and July, roughly 3 million dollars in social benefits were paid out in Sweden, with under 15 thousand dollars of that going to new EU citizens.
