Mobile Telephones linked to Tumours

Published torsdag 14 oktober 2004 kl 15.10

A new Swedish study claims that people who used the first generation of mobile telephones known as NMT have a much higher chance of developing tumours.

The study claims that the more powerful radio waves in the old equipment was far more harmful that those in modern GSM telephones that are now in widespread use around the world.

NMT telephones were used primarily in the Nordic region in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. The system is still in use today - mainly in Northern Sweden, but will be shutdown in 2007.
