Bin Laden: Sweden Not a Target

Published måndag 1 november 2004 kl 14.08
Video Tape aired first on Al Jazeera

Swedish media and the public reacted with surprise over the weekend as the video tape of Osama bin Laden aired late Friday European time, made specific reference to Sweden.

In the new video tape, in which Bin Laden threatened more attacks on the United States - Sweden is mentioned to drive home the Al Qaida message that the organisation is not anti-western.

Officials at the Swedish Foreign Ministry are interpreting the specific mention of Sweden to mean that this country is not a target of the militant fundamentalists that Osama bin Laden represents - something security officials have long assumed to be the case.
