Suggestion: Abortion is a Human Right

Published onsdag 3 november 2004 kl 13.04

RFSU (the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education) held a strategy meeting on abortion here in Stockholm Tuesday.

RFSU General Secretary, Katarina Lindahl said that as a member of the European Union, Sweden has a responsibility to highlight the issue of abortions.

RFSU wants abortions to be free of charge and classified as a human right according to the UN convention, a move supported by the Swedish government in the past.

Today’s government has expressed itself more cautiously with minister Carin Jämtin who is in charge of development aid, saying free and safe abortions are a woman’s right but did not go so far as to say abortions are a human rights issue.
