Hostage Drama has Happy Ending

Published onsdag 3 november 2004 kl 13.09

The 35-year-old man who held a woman and five children hostage was arrested Tuesday in the apartment where he had barricaded himself for nearly 24 hours in Norrköping, some 200 kilometres south of the capital.

The head of the police team, who had negotiated with the man all night, was Mikael Skoog.  He expressed his relief to Swedish Radio at the fast way in which the operation was carried out and confirmed that no one was injured.

The man had been deported earlier this year after serving prison time for attempted murder. After he returned to Sweden and police started searching for him in order to deport him again, he took the woman and her children hostage, threatening to kill them and himself.
