Swedish Political Leaders at EU Summit
Swedish Social Democratic Prime Minister Göran Persson and Foreign Minister Laila Freivalds are in Brussels for the European Union summit meeting – covering such issues as security and justice, a joint EU asylum policy, migration and crime.
The meeting is to review a report on creating a common EU labor market and another on progress made on the Lisbon plan on environmental questions and sustainable development. Another strategy document – on possible EU membership for Turkey.
Some observers maintain that the new European Commission chairman Barosso may make a 2nd attempt during the 2 day summit to present his new proposed commission – now that several of the controversial names in the first commission have been replaced.
