Final round Sunday

Peter Hanson is leading at the US Masters

Published söndag 8 april 2012 kl 09.56

The Swedish golfer Peter Hanson is leading the US Masters after a strong round of golf on Saturday at Augusta National in Georgia. But the 3-time winner Phil Mickelson is lurking in the shadows, trailing the Swede by one going into the final round on Sunday.

Hanson is ranked 25th in the world. The 33-year-old, who is now based in Florida, has won four European Tour events. After hearing that Mickelson had finished his round strong on Saturday, Hanson played it cool. "It's going to be tough, but I'm going to try to relax, cook some food with my family and hope to be able to get some sleep," he told Swedish Radio.

No Swedish men's player has ever won a Major Championship. Hanson is leading at nine-under, with Mickelson on his heels at eight-under, and South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen in third place at seven-under.

Hanson has only played in one other Masters Tournament at Augusta National. The American commentators did not really know what to say about him, so they compared him to another Swedish golfer, Annika Sörenstam.
