Efforts to avoid a strike this Friday by the Commercial Employees Union will be stepped up this afternoon. The dispute between the Commercial Employees Union and Svensk Handel, the retail employers association, is over wages.

Other sectors such as the construction and paper workers unions have threatened to support the strike. Following discussions, a mediator this afternoon is set to place an offer on the table to both parties. The commercial union wants a 4.5 percent pay increase while Svensk Handel is offering 2.6 percent.
