"It is clear that the labor market has been weakened"
Recent figures from the National Employment Service puts unemployment at 8.5 percent of the workforce, or 396 000 people. That is an increase by more than 8 000 persons compared to the same period last year, news agency TT reports.
At the same time the service sees a decrease in the numbers of jobs available.
“Compared to one year ago it is clear that the labor market has been weakened,” Tord Strannefors, at the Employment Service, wrote in a press release.
In March this year 4 945 people were told they are likely to get laid off in the near future compared to 3 045 people in March last year.
But some companies are also hiring.
“Employers in Sweden advertised about 70 000 new jobs through the Employment Service in March and 46 000 people found jobs. 11 000 of them are young people,” Strannefors wrote.
