Six jailed in attempted honour killing trial

Published torsdag 19 april 2012 kl 12.21

Örebro district court has jailed six men for grievous harm and the attempted murder of a 19-year-old man who they believed had dishonoured them by allegedly trying to kidnap a woman relative.

The woman's father was found guilty of grievous harm and sentenced to four years in prison. His three sons were sentenced to six and five years respectively in prison for attempted murder. News agency TT reports that the two sons with the longest sentence will later be deported.

A 46-year-old man who was at the gym where the murder attempt was made was jailed for two, and a half years and his son for a year.

District prosecutor Karl-Erik Antonsson had charged all six with attempted murder, as in his opinion, they all left the 19-year-old in a condition where he would have died had he not received help to hospital.

"I have not read the sentencing report yet so I do not know if I shall appeal, but it is not out of the question. The father was sentenced for grievous harm which I think is strange as nothing would have happened without his consent," Antonsson told TT.
