Sofia Arkelsten, who was replaced as party secretary of the conservative Moderate Party, has been given the vacant job of chairperson of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee. She takes over from Karin Enström who was recently promoted to minister of defence following the resignation of Sten Tolgfors.

Arkelsten's appointment as party secretary in October 2010 recently coincided with a decline in support for the Moderate Party in opinion polls and her resignation was announced by Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt last Friday.
