The Swedish furniture giant Ikea is contributing to the deforestation of ancient Russian forests to get wood for their furniture.

The forests being cut down are protected by the Forest Stewardship Council, which works to preserve unique forests around the world.

However, the Council's representative in Russia has said that compromises must be made and not every forest can be saved. The deforestation Ikea is involved in has been approved by the Council, according to news agency TT.
