Ikea rejects political prisoner allegations

Published lördag 28 april 2012 kl 17.20

A Swedish Television investigation has uncovered evidence that the furniture giant Ikea used political prisoners as labour in East Germany in the 1970s and 80s .

The company has denied the allegations in a statement:

“Ikea has never accepted that kind of operation. Our requirements were clear then as they are now.”

Following a German TV documentary last summer, Ikea investigated suspicions that political prisoner had been used in their factories in the communist state.

The Swedish documentary, Uppdrag Gransning, will be broadcasted on Swedish Television (SVT) on Wednesday.
