Major train delays after electrical failure

Over 20 SJ train departures from Stockholm were cancelled on Monday after an electrical failure at the train depot in Solna, outside of Stockholm.

"The trains couldn't come out on the tracks because there was no electricity," says SJ press secretary Ronny Hörstrand to news agency TT. "We have no prediction for when the problem will be fixed."

No trains could leave the depot between 5:00 am and 7:00 am early Monday morning. Since 7:00 am trains have been leaving the depot by using another track, but it takes longer and is causing delays.

Most of the cancelled trains were headed to Uppsala and Linköping, but even lines to Nyköping, Västerås, and Hallsberg have been affected.

However, SJ is not using replacement buses. "We're telling train passengers to wait for the next train," says Hörstrand.

Neither commuter trains nor the Arlanda Express train are impacted by the electrical failure.
