Sweden passes 9.5 million
Sweden's population has passed nine and a half million.
Statistics Sweden says that this figure was probably passed yesterday - and that the 9,500,000th Swede is probably an immigrant, since two-thirds of the population increase is due to people moving here.
This is not the fastest-growing period in Sweden's history was during the economic boom of 1950 to 1969, when the population leapt from seven to eight million in just 19 years.
But if current trends continue, then it will take just nine years to get to ten million, breaking the previous record.
